Brighter Beginnings Children's Program
OUR THANKS TO SEARS YOUNG FUTURES PROGRAM FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT
Brighter Beginnings Children's Program believes in the development of the whole child. We will also promote learning in all developmental areas through "PLAY". Our staff believes in close interactions between parents/caregiver, and all staff. We will provide a safe and stimulating environment and strive to provide a solid foundation for children to build on. Education and licensed staff, along with a team of volunteers, run our program. We emphasize the importance of education and the participation of the children in schoolwork and group activities.
Our purpose here at Brighter Beginnings Children's Program, is to provide our community with a FREE program for children between the ages of 6 thru 12 that will facilitate their growth and development in all developmental areas such as:
curiosity, initiative and independence;
self esteem and decision making skills;
enhance and/or develop social skills in a group setting;
communication skills; and
AGES OF CHILDREN
The children's program is licensed through the Ministry of Community and Social Services for children between the ages of 6 thru 12 years. We can accommodate up to 30 children on any given day.

Programming is offered, 49 weeks per year. The hours of operation are as follows:
After School Program

All the staff have a minimum of Early Childhood Education or Child and Youth Worker and a minimum of 2 years experience with continued ongoing training. They all have up to date First Aid and CPR, and they have all had a Criminal Reference Check.
Brighter Beginnings Children's program is an approved program that can accommodate children with special needs.
We have a homework table to aid the children with their homework and conduct special group projects. We also work with Special Services e.g.. Children's Rehab and we make referrals to agencies.
A nutritious snack will be provided on a daily basis. Children's special dietary needs and allergies will be posted in the cooking and playroom areas for our staff. Weekly menus will be posted for the current and following weeks.
Children are disciplined in a positive manner. We use the 1- 2 - 3 - magic method to control or stop negative behaviours. The child will be given two warning, and upon the third warning, it warrants a time away in a designated area. Time away includes 3-5 minutes of sitting alone or with a staff member. We will add up to an additional 5 minutes max.
If the child is physically/verbally abusive or displays extreme behaviour towards another child/staff, he/she will automatically be sent home.
At all costs, we will try to notify you by phone prior to your child being sent home.
(If you signed "no" do not let my child leave the premises by him/herself, the child will NOT be sent home alone, we ask that you come and pick him/her up.)
Spanking or other forms of corporal punishment are NOT permitted.
Throughout the year, trips are made to special places of interest. A notice will be sent home in advance of the excursion informing parents of the destination, date and time. It will also include a permission slip to be signed. and returned.
We will be closed on the following days:
New Year's Day Civic Holiday
Good Friday Labour Day
Easter Monday Thanksgiving Day
Victoria Day Christmas Day
Canada Day Boxing Day
We will also be closed between Christmas and New Years. We will send out a notice beforehand.
PARENTS & VOLUNTEERS
All parents and/or guardians are allowed to participate in the program with their child(ren). If you chose to volunteer in the children's program please contact the supervisor for further details on how you can obtain the Good Food Box on a monthly basis along with a variety of other benefits to you and your family.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO REMEMBER:
Once your child is enrolled in the program, he/she will be automatically enrolled for all summer and/or holiday programs.
As there is no fee to participate in our program, we ask that your child(ren) attend on a regular basis. If for any reason your child(ren) can not attend please phone to let staff know.
However: if your child has not been in attendance for a period of 2 weeks, we will assume you no longer require the service and he/she will no longer be considered enrolled in the program, and their spot will be given to the next person on our waiting list.
During the summer months, it is essential that your child bring his/her own sunscreen and a water bottle. We spend a lot of time outside in the sun.

Bikes for Kids 2007
The Sault Cycling Club and Velorution Bicycle Shop have partnered up and provided the children attending our program with new bicycles, locks and helmets. This is the 2nd Annual Bikes for Kids Program. Eight children attending our program received new bicycles, and the remaining children had the opportunity to have their bikes fixed up by bike mechanics. All children needing helmets and locks also received them. Thank you to all those who made this day happen!
On July 5, 2007 all the children enrolled in our program were able to participate in free Airplane Rides. Jeff Broadbent of Feifel, Broadbent, Gareau, Gualazzi Barristers and Solicitors provided us the free airplane rides in his personal airplane. Bev from Sault College and Merv Punkari from AirDale and Merv's Outdoor Marine, as well as 7500 Taxi all helped to make this event possible. Thank you!
